Day 19 of the 40-Day Challenge

In the name of Allah, most gracious and most merciful,

Today is another great day. Again, I woke up early, started early and my mood was good throughout the day. I didn’t spend enough time yet experimenting with the last system that I mentioned in yesterday’s post, so I prefer to talk about the systems’ pros and cons after applying it for about four or more days. Challenges are also repeating themselves so in this post, I will specify more details about the system I mentioned yesterday because I didn’t mention all its flexibilities, and optional restrictions yesterday. Therefore in this post, I will just talk in more detail about the new system, and I will share with you some useful pieces of information.

For me in the new system, I have put a deadline for writing my daily blog post for up to 18 hours late the next day rather than the 14 hours I specified in another blog post so that I will be more comfortable better managing my day.

1. The Last System in More Details

  1. Plan every minute in your next day before you go to sleep. So you will have:
    1. Deadline for waking up
    2. Deadline for sleeping
  2. All of your working day will be split into work or learning sessions followed by a break.
    1. The work or learning session is about one hour. During this time you should focus so hard, and remove any distractions.
    2. The break after it is about 45 minutes. In breaks you usually have two options:
      1. Either do your normal daily routines like eating, sitting with your family, preparing something, and so on.
      2. Have a very optimistic daily goal to benefit from your time as much as you can, like learning an important skill for a specific number of hours, reading a few chapters from a useful book, taking a big part of a course to learn something, and so on. The key idea is that you will do something you love, and challenging at the same time so that you are growing and doing what you love. Why it is better to be something you love? Because at the end of the day, it is a break 😊, so if you did something that you don’t love you will need to take a break from the break 😊 which doesn’t make much sense.
      3. Notice that I said all of your working day and not all of your day. So you could do this system starting from a certain time in the day until another certain time in the day depending on your needs.
  3. Flexibilities:
    1. If you are really into what you are doing, it could be better to postpone the break and extend your working time. That means, that you will extend your break accordingly so that the total sum of working or learning times and break times is approximately the same as if you didn’t extend your working times.
    2. If for some reason, your break extended, or you needed an extra break to refresh yourself then do it but extend your working session as well so that again the total sum of working or learning times, and break times is approximately the same as if you didn’t extend or increase your breaks.
  4. Optional Restrictions:
    1. You can specify the times when you will do your daily routines, and times when you will do your optimistic goal of the thing you want to achieve.
    2. You can also specify specific times for eating, and what you will eat to reserve your decision quota for the most important decisions.

Notes:

1. As a rule of thumb “Don’t unless you are hungry, and when you eat don’t fill all your stomach” to be healthy.

2. I am not sure of the principles here, I am experimenting with myself and observing the results. So maybe something will be useful for me, and not for you and vice versa.

2. Useful Pieces of Advice

Most of these pieces of information are taken from The Magic of Thinking Big book.

  • Two things to do to avoid the costly mistake of waiting for perfect conditions before acting:
    1. Expect future obstacles and difficulties since risks and uncertainties usually exist. Then try to eliminate as many risks, obstacles, and difficulties as possible before you start by planning for how to deal with them. However, it is still very difficult to eliminate all risks.
    2. Meet problems and obstacles as they arise. The test of the successful person is not the ability to eliminate all problems before he takes action, but rather the ability to find solutions to difficulties when he encounters them. We can’t buy an insurance policy against all problems.
  • Five weapons are used to commit success suicide so destroy these weapons because they are dangerous:
    1. Self-deappreciation. Believing that they won’t be able to do it.
    2. Want to stay secure, and not take any risks.
    3. Competition. The field is already overcrowded so how could I compete in this?
    4. Parental dictation. Most parents don’t dictate intentionally to their children what they want them to do since all intelligent parents want their children to be successful. If the young person will patiently explain why he or she prefers a different career, his parents will usually listen with no friction since the children and their parents’ intentions are identical which is “success”.
    5. Family responsibility. It is now too late since I have a family that I want to support. Therefore see how you could do your best to achieve both success while being responsible of your family.
  • The overwhelming majority of successful people work much longer than 40 hours a week, and you don’t hear them complain of work. Successful people have their eyes focused on a goal, and this gives them energy.
  • Energy increases and multiplies when you set a desired goal and resolve to work towards that goal. Many people can find new energy by selecting a good goal and doing as much as they can to accomplish that goal. Goals may cure boredom.

Finally

Thank you. I hope this post has been beneficial to you. I would appreciate any comments if anyone needed more clarifications or if anyone has seen something wrong in what I have written in order to modify it, and I would also appreciate any possible enhancements or suggestions. We are humans, and errors are expected from us, but we could also minimize those errors by learning from our mistakes and by seeking to improve what we do.

Allah bless our master Muhammad and his family.
